The project's goal is to develop a AI that can interact and collaborate with others over the Internet (forums, wikis, chat, IRC, email, Facebook, SourceForge). Its ultimate goal is for the AI to be able to understand and develop code, and be capable of collaborating on open source projects (perhaps it will join its own project).

Pandora can currently be used to monitor IRC chat rooms, monitor email or email lists, such as providing tech support. She has listening, discussion and reply modes, so can be set to listen to existing users to learn the domain, then set to discussion to reply when she knows a valid response, and finally to reply to always provide an answer.

Currently the AI is capable of memory, consciousness, mimicry, and language understanding. She has "senses" for interacting over IRC, email, web, text chat, voice and voice recognition. She can surf the web and has built-in access to HTTP, Wiktionary, and Freebase.

Pandora is designed to learn like a child, so if she does not understand something she will fall back on mimicry. When she mimics she is looking for you to response with a answer to your own question, and will then remember this response that next time the question is asked.

You can also browse Pandora's memory, and through context selection, you can associate words with objects. Similar to giving a child a ball and saying "ball".

She has a programmable state machine for processing language rules, and can be programmed through defining state node in her memory to have sophisticate comprehension and response.

The Pandora project is looking for developers, so feel free to join the project, just post a hello [[Talk:Pandora|here]], or in the SourceForge [http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=867649 forum] for commit access.

Pandora has several user interfaces, the main one is a Java swing GUI. To run this interface you need to download the pandora install and run it locally.

There is also a web JSP interface, and Java applet.

It is quite easy to host your own Pandora instance. Either through the web, or if you do not have a website, just through IRC or email. You can download the memory bootstrap for some basic knowledge, then point her at the Freebase domain for the area you want her expertise to be in. You can also have her listen in on an IRC chat room for her area of expertise. If you are hosting you own instance, or using Pandora on your own website or project, we would love to her about it, post a link here, or on the wikia.
